Meet Dee-dee. She was a "veal calf" and was left to starve to
death, chained to a veal crate because the veal producer didn't want his
veal operation anymore. She was rescued and rehabilitated by the good people
at the Farm Sanctuary.

Your help is needed to help rescue hundreds of needy cows and calves
and get them to unique farm animal shelters. Farm Sanctuary operates the
largest shelters in the country for victims of the "food animal"
production and when you join their ADOPT A COW PROJECT you will help provide
feed, shelter and love for a rescued cow or calf. You will also help to
provide the resources needed to protect all cattle from inhumane treatment.
Finally the cow protection campaigns are saving lives and changing the
way farm animals are being treated. The Farm Sanctuary was instrumental
in:
- The first-ever cruelty conviction of a "milk-fed" veal farmer.
When 64 calves were left to starve to death in their crates, the Farm Sanctuary
provided protective custody of the survivors and helped prosecute the veal
farmer who was responsible.
- The first-ever cruelty conviction of a stockyard for abusing a cow
that was too weak to stand.
- Passing the first state law to prevent cruelties such as dragging and
abandoning sick and injured cows at stockyards and slaughterhouses.
- The first television commmercials aimed at informing the public about
"food animal" production. Cows need protection too.

Alby was abandoned at a veal farm and left chained to a small crate where he almost died from neglect. Despite all he's been through, Alby is very sweet and gentle and likes being around people. Alby is a Holstein steer and lives at our New York shelter

ADOPT A COW

Jonie was born at a dairy farm, but the farmer didn't want her because she was small and sickly. Joni is now big, healthy, athletic and loves to run around her large, 300 acre pasture. Jonie is a Holstein cow and lives at our California shelter.

Valentino was going to be sent to a veal farm but he escaped and found his way to Farm Sanctuary. Valentino is a real "lover boy" and he likes to give smoochies and kisses to shelter visitors. Valentino is a Holstein steer and lives at our California s
helter.

Dolly was left to starve to death on a dairy farm. After several months of nourishing food and loving care, Dolly became a big, strong cow and she's always the first one in line at mealtime. Dolly is a Jersey cow and lives at our New York shelter.

Tyler was abandoned on a livestock auction loading dock because he couldn't walk. Now fully recovered, Tyler likes to take care of other rescued calves when they first arrive at Farm Sanctuary. Tyler is a Jersey steer and lives at our California shelte
r.

Opie was abandoned at a stockyard because he was a "downer" calf (too weak to walk). Today Opie not only walks but dances to country music. He's a real "party animal"! Opie is a Holstein steer and lives at our New York shelter.
